OCTO, a Mediterranean restaurant in Okinawa.
This time we traveled all the way to Kouri Island for OCTO, a restaurant she had really wanted to visit. Both the interior and exterior were beautiful, but we arrived late and were so hungry that I remember having little patience for photography. Luckily, I did take pictures of the food. Please look at Google Maps for the views I missed!
At OCTO, familiar island ingredients reveal another side when Okinawan produce meets Mediterranean cooking.
OCTO is a Mediterranean grill restaurant on Kouri Island that brings those influences together. Located in BATON SUITE Okinawa Kouri Island, it looks out onto the island's blue sea through large windows.
Ingredients and fire are at the heart of the cooking. Produce from Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands, alongside ingredients selected from across Japan, is cooked in a charcoal grill by Spain's Josper. Pizzas are baked in a dedicated stone oven. Drawing on the food cultures of Italy, southern France, Spain, and other Mediterranean regions, the restaurant gives island ingredients a fresh interpretation.
The open sea view and open kitchen also define the setting. You can look from the scenery outside to the dishes taking shape in the kitchen, making it a pleasant place for a leisurely meal.
Keep it in mind if you are driving around Kouri Island and want a meal that brings scenery and food together. It suits anyone curious to encounter Okinawan flavors from a slightly different perspective.
Price impression: A splurge.
