A seafood favorite in Eurwang-ri, Incheon.

She was flying into Incheon that day. As soon as she landed, she said that arriving in Korea always made her crave something warming and spicy, and told me to find a seafood-stew restaurant. Anticipating exactly that, I had already found this place. Even with the spicy seasoning left out, the ingredients themselves gave the stew a satisfying kick. A good meal followed by a walk along the beach cleared our heads beautifully.

Eobu Singwangho near Seonnyeobawi Beach

Near Seonnyeobawi Beach on Yeongjong Island, Eobu Singwangho’s main branch has welcomed diners for more than 20 years. This local institution in Eurwang-ri specializes in mulhoe, raw seafood in chilled broth, attracting guests with freshness and vivid presentation. Each bowl brings together the natural colors and flavors of the ingredients.

Rainbow Mulhoe and hot seafood dishes

Its signature Rainbow Mulhoe arrives in a large bowl piled with around 16 kinds of seafood, including wild-caught fish, abalone, sea cucumber, sea squirt and turban shell, finished with colorful fruit and young greens. The secret slushy broth is made by blending and maturing more than 11 vegetables and fruits. Rather than an artificial sharpness, it offers gentle fruit sweetness and clean savoriness. It neatly balances any fishy notes, stays refreshing to the last spoonful and pairs beautifully with the thin wheat noodles added to the remaining broth.

The hot side dishes provide a welcome contrast to the chilled mulhoe. Seafood kalguksu, filled with scallops, mussels and other shellfish, lets a deep, refreshing sea flavor soak into the knife-cut noodles. The thick octopus-and-seafood scallion pancake is crisp outside and tender inside; alternating it with mulhoe creates a particularly satisfying contrast of temperature and texture.

A casual seaside atmosphere and ample parking in front make the restaurant convenient for families and day-trip drivers. On a day when you want to look out over the open sea at Seonnyeobawi and enjoy bright, refreshing seafood flavors, this is a rewarding west-coast stop.

Price impression: Moderate.
